Ambassador: What one or two things do you currently do during your off season training that are keys to your success for the baseball season?
James: The first thing for me is staying in shape, especially my stretching routine, workout routine, and my diet. The second is making sure I get enough downtime so that I’m re-charged come spring training.
Ambassador: What would be your ultimate achievement?
James: Winning a World Series.
Ambassador: What’s your favorite thing about Detroit?
James: My favorite thing about Detroit is the tradition of the city – the blue-collar, hardworking people and the loyalty that they have towards the city.
Ambassador: Do you have any game day superstitions?
James: I have to take a shower and get clean before I put on a clean uniform.
Ambassador: What is your diet like?
James: I aim to get 5 servings of vegetables every day, and I generally mix in a lot of fish and chicken with the occasional red meat.
Ambassador: What’s your guilty pleasure?
James: Watching The Bachelor with my wife.
Ambassador: Favorite Detroit restaurant?
James: I’m a fan of Big Rock in Birmingham.
Ambassador: Have you experienced a breakthrough, and if so, what led to it?
James: Every part of my journey to the big leagues there have been obstacles to overcome, and understanding this game, there will always be obstacles, but each obstacle provides an opportunity to rise above and become better for it.
Ambassador: What was the best advice you were ever given?
James: Work like it depends on me and pray like it depends on God.
Ambassador: Do you have a saying or motto that you live your life by?
James: Impossible is nothing with God.
Ambassador: Where do you draw your inspiration from?
James: My desire to be great comes from within.
Ambassador: Who do you most admire?
James: My parents and their work ethic and what they did to raise my brother and I.
Ambassador: What’s your favorite item in your closet?
James: Matching my Lawrence Hunt shirts with my cowboy boots.
Ambassador: Dress shoes vs. Tennis shoes?
James: Cowboy boots, but if I had to choose, I’m wearing tennis shoes.
Ambassador: Red wine or white?
James: Dr. Pepper.
Ambassador: Coffee or espresso?
Ambassador: Where is your favorite place to get away?
James: The woods.
Ambassador: What was the last song/album you downloaded?
James: “Dirt on my Boots” by Jon Pardi.
Ambassador: Grammy’s or Oscars?
Ambassador: Who is the biggest trouble maker in the locker room?
James: Mark Lowe, but it’s all in good fun!
